Update from Coeur d'Alene

A quick update from Idaho... Pictures will have to wait since my digital camera broke and I am using one of those Walgreen's 35-mm disposables! Too bad!

We took a swim this morning and the water is cold. My first reaction was, "This is colder than Aquatic Park." They mentioned that it was around 57 but it felt colder to me. Anyway, at least the water was much calmer than last year and I think it will be okay. The official word is that booties or aqua socks will definitely be allowed, and a volunteer told me they will have hot tubs and warming huts available after the swim. So don't be surprised if you see a lot of long transition times! We were wondering if they might also be serving us drinks in the hot tub?

Waiting in line to register, I spied a girl with an insulin pump and decided to say hello. Her dad is racing Sunday (Rod, bib #1611 I think?) and we chatted about pumps and triathlons. Sarah was her name and she said she was thinking of doing an Ironman someday and she has already done some smaller events. Go for it Sarah! I feel a little odd accosting people with insulin pumps but I can't help it sometimes.

Later this afternoon, after going for broke at the Ironman gear store, we went on a ride along the run course. The memories of last year came flooding back... "This is where I got really hot..." and "Hmm, this is about where I crashed & burned on the run for 30 minutes." But mostly, I was reminded what a beautiful location Coeur d'Alene is. I am planning to take some moments on Sunday to enjoy the experience. It should be easy since I will be keeping it mellow in heart rate zone 2, right?

Oh and I just heard some pretty juicy gossip that a certain cycling hero who started out in triathlon may be testing the waters with us all on Sunday...

Don't let Lance intimidate you, Anne. You totally rock the bike, so I think you can hang with him there, and then blow him away on the run. And, hey, maybe he'll get too comfortable in the hot tub, and just call it good.

GOOD LUCK! WIsh I could be there!!

Enjoy every second!!!!!!

Ask Lance if he is "slaying the dragon within," that commercial cracks me up.

Welcome to Coeur d'Alene, hopefully you do enjoy your stay here despite the cold, cold water! You should have been here for the Polar Bear Plunge!

If you find something you particularly love or enjoy about Coeur d'Alene while you're here, I'd love to hear about it. My company's working on a video about the Coeur d'Alene area and looking for any and all input people may have about the city.

A shameless promotion of my website, but there are also some photos of the area you can point people to until yours get developed. :) There are also some great photos of the area on Flickr.com if you do a search for Coeur d'Alene.

I love this area and hope you do too. Even with a Walgreens disposable camera you should get some great stuff! CdA is really photogenic. :)

Good luck in the Triathlon! Enjoy yourself and be safe.

I think you should wear a shirt that says, "Kiss my Ance, Lance."
